“Urdva danur asana”
“Upward-facing bow pose”
The body holds the tension between the opposing forces of a bow. The expansion and the contraction of the bow itself. Here, the yogi embodies the actions of the bow, the feeling of engagement through muscular contraction, and the moment of release and trust, which is the expansion and openness of the heart in the front body.
Wordplay in the homograph: Playing with the verb “bow” (pronouncing the “ow” as in “how”), can be a similar contemplation. When we bow, there is a moment of exchange: What does it feel like to both offer and receive?
